Food for Thought:
Submission: "A wife submits voluntarily, not merely as demanded and enforced by the man. It is a gift that a woman offers to the man she has vowed to love in obedience to God who first loved her. For this reason, it is imperative that a woman's submission be "as to the Lord”, that is, flowing from the submissive obedience she already yields to Jesus Christ.” - R. & S. Phillips
"The Christian must surely be so disposed and minded that he feels within himself it is with God he has to deal throughout his life. In this way, as he will refer all he has to God's decision and judgment so will he refer his whole intention of mind scrupulously to Him. For he who has learned to look to God in all things that he must do, at the same time avoids all vain thoughts. This, then is that denial of self which Christ enjoins with such great earnestness,” ” John Calvin, Institutes, 3.7.2
••... the fear of God influences them to cleave close unto him; and the power of God keeps them from departing from him, from his doctrines, worship, and ordinances, from his people, and a profession of his name,"“, John Gill on Jeremiah 32:40
