Van de spil van de natie naar een positie aan de kantlijn, zo kunnen we de tegenwoordige positie van het koningshuis wel omschrijven.
De huidige misstap van de koninklijke familie aangaande de vakantie in Griekenland behoeft geen verdere uitleg maar geeft her en der stof voor discussie aangaande de rol van de monarchie in de samenleving.

Rekening houdend met het feit dat het ook mensen zijn met hun fouten en het niet over de personen in kwestie hebben maar het instituut, is het tegenwoordig nog wel wenselijk om een traditioneel vorstenhuis te hebben? Of tenminste een vorst die anno heden nog in de regering zit? Op een niet verkiesbare plaats in een democratie nog wel te verstaan.

Wat vinden wij als christenen hier trouwens van? Ikzelf heb mijn geloof nooit per definitie aan een ander instituut gekoppeld dan de kerk. dus ook niet aan de monarchie. Al weet ik wel dat het koningshuis onder mijn medechristenen grote populariteit geniet...

Mijn antwoord is: Ja & er hoeft niets te veranderen (zonder dat ik het als een instelling van God zie).

Welke optie kan ik dan het beste kiezen?

Ik ben vóór het koningshuis, maar eerlijk gezegd mis ik prinses Beatrix.
Ik word intussen moe van al die negatieve berichten over te dure vakantiehuizen en boten en beetje domme akties van W.A.
Ik vraag me echt af of zijn moeder hem toch niet van (ongevraagd) advies dient, in deze kwesties.
Intussen moet premier Rutte de plooien weer gladstrijken, omdat de koning nu eenmaal onder zijn verantwoordelijkheid valt.
En dat vind ik echt wel uit de tijd. Het wijzigen van de Grondwet kan in dezen zomaar niet, begrijp ik.
Want dan is de koning niet onschendbaar meer.
Als er schaduw is, dan moet er ook licht zijn ~ Spurgeon

Ik ben voor het koningshuis omdat ze Nederland goed kunnen vertegenwoordigen in het buitenland. Voor onze koning wordt de rode loper uitgerold, voor een Nederlandse president staat de achterdeur open. Qua kosten lijkt me weinig verschil tussen koningschap en presidentschap.

Omdat we een klein land zijn, en het staatshoofd hier geen regeringsleider is. Het staatshoofd heeft een ceremoniële functie. Iedere 4 jaar een uitgerangeerde politicus zorgt niet bepaald voor continuïteit en statuur.

Kijk naar Duitsland, kun je de laatste 4 Duitse presidenten noemen?

Mooi dat ze een boodschap hebben gegeven aan ons land, ze betuigen spijt en dan is het goed.
We worstelen allemaal met wat kan wel en wat kan niet.
Juist hiermee staan ze toch 'tussen ons in' . Dus ja ik denk dat het goed is om ons koningshuis aan te houden en voor ze te bidden.

Maar de vraag is, willen wij een koning die tussen ons in staat of willen wij een meer afstandelijke, maar zeer stabiele vorst(in) zoals
queen Elizabeth?
Ik heb steeds meer bewondering voor haar gekregen, in de loop van de jaren.

Voor mij was spijt betuigen niet nodig. De vliegtuigen richting de paar gele gebieden in Europa ziiten al weken bomvol en dan mag WA niet?
We zijn een jaloers en kleinzielig volkje aan het worden.

Als ik dan toch tussen die twee zou moeten kiezen dan toch W.A.
Wat Elisabeth betreft hen ik echt nog nooit het kleinste spoortje sociale betrokkenheid gezien, en dan die onverschilligheid...
Ik geloof dat mijn koelkast nog meer menselijke warmte uitstraalt...

Ik heb steeds meer bewondering voor haar gekregen, in de loop van de jaren.
Ik heb persoonlijk minder met de wat modernere en meer popiejopie-koers die Willem Alexander inzet, en houd erg van de ceremonie, tradities en statuur van het Britse koningshuis. Ik hou dus meer van de stijl van queen Elizabeth.

Overigens is haar man, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, het tegenovergestelde van queen Elizabeth. Hij vermaakt zich kostelijk met allerlei grappen en grollen, en politiek incorrecte opmerkingen.

Mijn antwoord staat er niet bij. Optie 2 past het best, met uitzondering van de toevoeging 'zonder betrekking op mijn geloof'. Er is namelijk wel een betrekking op het geloof, zonder dat we de monarchie zien als 'instelling Gods'.
